Fun with Photography

So through a love of photography, an idea from a close friend and encouragement from family and friends, I have started to put together a site of alphabet photography art. This new venture is called Zinck Designs. My husband has been great and we have both gotten really into this idea. We did our first design for our good friends Rick and Sandy Gammenthaler. I was talking to my extended family today and they reminded me that I have not posted in a while. So, I am going to try to catch everyone up on the busy life of the Zincks lately. Shaun and I were in a wedding in August for our good friends Rick and Sandy. We had a great time with the wedding and cannot wait to see where God is going to take the Gammenthaler's. Bluebonnets

Shaun and I went on a bike ride this past Good Friday and found a field of beautiful bluebonnets. So we decided (aka Jala) to go out on Saturday to take some pictures. Shaun's parents helped us which brought back several memories for his dad in bluebonnet fields with Shaun. You would be proud that I only freaked out a few times with all the bees!!! Yes I know I should have expected them with all the flowers but I wasn't thinking!!!

We have our good friends let us borrow their old digital SLR camera. We have been having fun trying to learn to take pictures. Shaun use to work for an editor and knows some of the editing techniques too. What do you all think? This is going to be a fun hobby.

Its been a long time since I have posted. So there are going to be several posts to catch up on the busy Zinck family. We were able to go to the Arboretum this year to take some wonderful pictures with the pumpkins. For Halloween, Abigail was a Texas cheerleader and Winnie the pooh. I also started back to work. It is hard but Grandma is watching Abigail which makes it better.

Texas State Fair

I have been delinquent at posting. I have been back to work for the last 3 weeks and am trying to get us all adjusted to the new schedule. This past Friday we took the day off to go to the state fair. Shaun and I had our first date at the state fair and take off each year to enjoy the fair and remember our date. This year we got to bring Abigail. She was a great baby. She really enjoyed the puppet show. We took several pictures, including one of our little "chicken" in front of the chicken game we played in our engagement pictures.

These are some of my favorite pictures lately. She smiles and laughs all the time but is sometimes hard to catch on camera but she performed great for her photo shot in her favorite longhorn gear. The second picture is her taking a nap in her big girl bed...aka her crib. She has been sleeping with us in a pack and play and we are going to try to transition her to her crib. She is growing up so fast!

Abigail is now over 2 months old. We went to her two month appointment last week. She is 12 lbs 5 oz (85%), 23 3/8 inches long (80%) and 15 1/2 in. head circumference (50%). She did not feed well before the appointment so she was hungry when we got there which did not help with shots. She was already fussy and then the shots came. She was turned bright red and looked Daddy straight in the eyes and then just screamed! Poor Daddy got the privilege of holding her during these shots. She got a little fever and was cranky that day but recovered great the next day. I cannot believe our little girl is already 2 months old. She is smiling all the time now. Playing with her toys, and even laughing which is exciting. God has definitely blessed us.

Abigail went for her first swim at Aunt Adawndria and Uncle Fisher's House. She wasn't quite sure of the pool at first but towards the end really enjoyed the pool.

Introducing Abigail. We were pleasantly surprised to have a baby girl on June 20th. Everyone, including family, co-workers and even people at the grocery store, thought we were going to be having a boy but God blessed us with a beautiful 9lb 4oz baby girl. We are now getting use to the lack of sleep and adjusting to life as parents. We thank God for this blessing! Here are some pictures of our little girl.

Beginning Java

I don't mean java. I mean Java. Technically it's a mocha/java blend. I stopped by the local coffee roaster's shop and picked up some beans that just freshly came out of the roaster. If I'm going to be tired, I might as well have something good to drink! This is my last non-fatherly post. Even though it's nearing bedtime, I'm going to brew a pot here in a few minutes. This post would be longer, but I just found out the baby wants a snow cone. Gotta run!

Cooking for nerds

It seems like a lot of people have decided to start blogging now that they are having kids. Some people blog because they like to share pictures of the cakes they make. I'll just have to "nerd it out" on here every once in a while so people will know we do things besides have kids.

In my most recent schooling, I learned about Newton's law of heating and cooling, which states that the rate of change of temperature of an object (du/dt) is proportional to the difference between the temperature of the object (u) and the surrounding temperature (T). This can be represented by the differential equation:

This could be a tremendous help in the kitchen. Instead of having to repeatedly pull chicken out of the oven to either cut it open or stick a thermometer in it, only to find after several tries that the chicken is overcooked, the cooking time could be precisely calculated. The only thing you would have to do is find the constant k. That, and you'd need to precisely measure the temperature of the chicken and the internal temperature of the oven.

Since we are interested in how long it take the chicken to reach a certain temperature (160), we must solve the differential equation for t. I'm intentionally skipping the mathematical gyrations, but here's what the solved equation looks like:

Now all you have to do is measure the temperature of the oven, the temperature of the chicken before you put it in, and then the temperature of the chicken after 10 minutes of cooking. Just plug the numbers into the equation above, and you'll find out how long your chicken will take to cook. You'll need to subtract 10 minutes since the equation yields total cook time. I'll try cooking some chicken with this method once I get the appropriate supplies (thermometers) and post an update.

This is our first time to try to blog. We are currently expecting our first little bundle of joy on June 20th. I can't believe we are already half way there. I will be letting our friends and family know progress of the peanut during the next few months.
